These are the steps I have taken to get into Bookevent this year, and I hope they help you, too.
1) Use Microsoft Word. I can’t express how much Microsoft Word has helped me on my writing journey.
I not only use Word to write my stories, but I also use spread sheets in Office to keep up with my Book Events/ Book Signing at Bookstores.
2) Open a Spread Sheet and Label it Book Events/ Book Signings 2025.
Yes, I said 2025. The reason why I am saying 2025 is because, with a lot of events, you will have to sign up a year in advance. Especially the indoor ones. Because, let’s be honest, no one wants to be outdoors in the heat of the summer. Especially me because I live in Texas.
When making your spreadsheet, organize it with color. For example:
Green is for scheduled Book Events.
Blue is for Applied for Book Events.
Yellow is for Waitlisted. (Because, yes, you will be put on waiting lists.)
Red is for Decline of Attendance. (Don’t get upset, it will happen.)
Also, make lots of notes when applying these events to your spreadsheet. Put in dates, times, places, what the event is about. So on and so forth.
And finally, a calendar. I use 2 different electronic calendars to help me keep up. So, do what helps YOU keep up and stay organized.
3) Write a Synopsis or Blurb or both for each of your books. The Book Event’s you are applying for will most likely ask for these.
4) A photo that you would like to use for your Book Event page.
5) A BIO about yourself. Remember, when writing the synopsis, blurb, and bio, you need to make sure that they are appealing.
6) Google is your friend. You will have to research the book events, putting in your browser, Book Events for your State that you live in. Example: Book Events in Texas.
It is honestly easier to find locally offered book Events than it is to drive out of state.
Also, follow Events on Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media platforms so that you can get inside updates for when the next event occurs and you can apply ahead of time. Seeing a different author attending an event will give you insight on more to come.
7) Last but definitely not least, you will HAVE TO have a social media presence. Even if it’s just you checking in daily about what you’re doing with your story. A lot of these events want you to help them promote their events and will expect you to have some kind of presence.
So, I hope that helps! If you have any questions, you can reach out, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Until next time, Happy Reading!
